Here are some photos taken of the Altar of Moon Park (Yuetan Gongyuan) in Beijing for your pleasure.
The Altar of Moon is one of the four main Ming Dynasty altars of Beijing. The three others, and much more well known, are Temple of Heaven, Temple of Earth and Altar of Sun. They are located in four cardinal directions, looking from the Forbidden City. The Altar of Moon, just like the Altar of Sun, was built in 1530 by Emperor Jiajing. He and later his successors performed rituals on the altar during the full moon of the 8th month.
I visited Beijing in May 2007. Yuetan Park had just recently been opened after major reconstruction. As an architect, I was especially inspired by how traditional Chinese and modern style had been combined in the design. The difference between old/reconstructed structures and new ones could easily be seen. Yet the new technique was made with skill.
The park is also a botanical garden and a peacefull oasis in the middle of a busy city. Some renovations were still going on during my visit, and a TV tower, built decades ago, was unfortunately still standing on the altar.

Hopefully you get some feel of the place.
