Finding out the time

Hello, colleagues.

I have a client. It is a lady born on 7 March 1943 in Sofia, Bulgaria.
She doesn't know the time of her birth, but she knows that ascendent was in Scorpio.
Is there anyone familiar with european astrology here to find the time based on the ascendent thing?

If you use 18:05-20:35 daylight saving time, you are safe.

In Bulgaria the DST is introduced since 1979. And anyway DST is usually switched on in the end of March. So it should be 17.05–19.35. Am I right?

Hi Alexey,
When I use AstroDienst, it shows DTS for 1943. Maybe it was a war time affair, because during the war many countries adopted DST or war time for a few years. Anyway, it was good to check, because I realized I am still in May Day celebration mood and was reading the birth month as May instead of March. 7 March 1943 Sofia, Scorpio ascendant is 21:03-23:38.

Päivi, thanks for the help. Though I am still confused.
Is it a local astronomical time, or a civil time, or a Greenwich?
Is it still DST or not? And what timezone is that: UTC+2 (DST?) or UTC+1 (DST?)?
+2 is a bulgarian time. But during the WWII Bulgaria was a Germany's ally, so adoption of UTC+1 is also possible.
Where do you calculate that? Is it on the website astro.com?

Hi Alexey,
It is from astro.com. Local UTC +1. astro.com is the most accurate source, but it is not 100% faultless (what is) so you still need to make sure from other sources if in doubt. in this case you need to choose between Hai and Zi hours.

Some tables that I have from western astrology say that a person born between 1-10 march will have a Scorpio ascendent if born between 22.40-0.10

Yes. If it is the true local astronomical time (not timezone) then it falls into the same option 亥 or 子. The astro.com's (Päivi's) time being converted into the true local time is 21:36 – 0:11. And we still have to choose not only the hour, but also the day.

Hi Alexey,

You can always use a little western astrology program to find the possible birth times if you only got the person's ascendant.
I use this freeware program: Astrowin

There is also a little rule of thumb that can be used.
Here is how to do it:
1) 7 March means this person was born with Sun in Pisces.
2) Now you count backward from Asc. Scorpio till you reach her Sun sign Pisces.
We find it takes 8 steps to count back to Pisces.
3) Now you count forward these 8 steps starting from the Rabbit Hour, and thus we find this person was born in or near Pig Hour.

It is not always accurate, so could also be Dog or Rat Hour.
Exact calculation is needed to be more sure.

there are also ways in chinese astrology to find out the birth time - you only need a little bit of experience.

one Question you could ask, is about her position when she is sleeping.

does she prefer her front, her back or her side?

I didn´t mean you should ask about her life history - this is for experts.
There´s another simple method that depends on the sleeping position in the night. I have often clients or students who are not sure about there hour and most of the horoscopes I could do it the chinese way.
