Last month I spent a couple of weeks in Transylvania, in an area, which is called the ”salt country”. I participated in a qigong retreat in Sovata, which is known for its salty heliothermal lakes, and had an opportunity to visit Praid, the center of the Szekely Salt Country, where the most notable salt mine is located.

The mountains contain huge salt deposits, which have been mined at least from the Roman times. Because of the nature of the soil, agriculture does not thrive there. Salt and forestry are the most important industries. Another important product of the region is honey and you can't avoid the gentle honey bees, who make themselves busy everywhere.

I had time to reflect on trigrams and the practices of fengshui when I was getting to know the area.

In Shuoguazhuan (or Shuo Gua Zhuan), trigram Dui is given meanings like salty soil and wetland (lower land, where water gathers when it flows down from the mountains forming marshes, swamps and lakes). Dui is also the youngest daughter, the concubine, whose important task was to give birth to sons. We also need to remember that Dui is metal, which represents such things as mouth, lungs and skin.

Trigram Kun and the related star Black-2 is often called the star of sickness. Dui or Red-7 is used to ”cure” it.

What has all this to do with the salt country, except for the fact that obviously Dui represents this salty ground?

In Sovata, on the 27th May, 1875, at 11 a.m. there was a downpour of rain and lake Ursu (Bear) was born. It took six years to grow into its final size. Around lake Ursu there are five smaller salty lakes. Very soon after the birth of lake Ursu, its saltiness and warmth enticed people to bathe in its water for health. The main problems people find cure for in it are gynecological problems and infertility (remember the concubines and their babies?). The list of other illnesses treated in the salty lake is very long.

One of the smaller lakes is frequented for its black mud, which people take straight from the embankments of the lake and apply to their skin (again that metal).

In Praid, rock salt has been exported all over the continent and what's left, are huge underground vaults. The older parts of the mine are now used for halopathy or salt therapy. Guess what are the illnesses treated by salt/metal: respiratory (metal) diseases.

I am now using salt soap (pure salt) on my face and it has cleared up the skin of a 30-year thing in a way I never thought possible.

One application of the healthy effects of salt is more widely known: the salt lamps, which are recommended to improve the quality of air we breathe.

Hi all?

I'm from Mongolia in this network. And glad to be a friend with you. My English is poor. But I hope that you will help me in Feng shui knowledge and share me about the Four Pillars and Flying Stars.
I will try my best to communicate with you. I studied and learned Feng Shui almost 6 years.

Hi Paivi,
It is very funny. Finally I bought a salt lamp, meaning to bring it to my air con office. My partner sometimes smoke in the air con office and you know, it is really smelly. However, I used it in my bedroom. The next day, the salt lamp is damp. Why is the salt producing moisture? I do not know whether it is okay or not. My wife is asking me to take it away as the table is filled up with things.
Any comments from anyone.

The salt lamp did not produce moisture. It produces water. Quite a lot also.

Hi Lau,

The so-called saltwater cure is a countermeasure representing the metal element of number 7.this consists of a glass bowl which you fill up to 2/3s with salt, put six coins and fill it with water.it is used for five yellow #5#There is however a contradiction,as it usually happens among the Practitioners. Some use it for #2# black as well, but there is another contradiction that says, seven is represented by the watersalt,if you put it for #2# they combine to give 2 7 a he tu combination that gives fire,Fire enhances the earth of #2# and the he tu combination according to the direction it is found it is in benevolent or malevolent position so one should be careful .
There is also another objection for this saltwater cure for the #5# yellow as well .Because the 7 of the saltwater combine with the 6 of the six coins giving the combination of 6-7 which is also a malevolent combination.

Although I have used the saltwater cure for two years now .and i have even slept in the room with #5# nothing wrong has happened to my family ,for years now, thanks god,The safest cure of both #2# and #5# is only plain Metal.I have a couple of round metal decorative wall plates ,which are easy to tranfer from room to room every month chasing #2# and #5# .

You can visit ww.fengshuiweb.co.Uk/advice/saltwatercure.htm (Micheal is for it) , you can also buy Ulrich Wilhelm Lippelt" books " Feng shui Demistfied 1 2) I found these two books very helpful as is contains the differencesbetween different schools ,gives all the water formulas and much more,or search in Google "salt water cures" and you will know much more about it

Sorry for my late answer but I had missed your question and came to your post of 14 october by chance, and here I answered it

Hi Despina,
All the while I thought one tablespoon of salt will do. I use a stainless steel coffee n tea set as a cure for #2 if it landed in my bedroom on that day. It really protected me from getting sick, like severe headache. Before that, I did not understand why I got frequent headache until I started to understand the flying stars. But I didn't try it with salt water so far. I am not affected by the monthly and yearly star is becoz I seldom go into that room. I try not to disturb that corner if I will to get something out of that room.

Thanks for the recommended website.

Hi Lau,

That's good, once we have the fundamentals in Feng Shui theory,we can protect ourselves as far as possible it is in our potentials.

Hi Cheo,

Interesting about the water. Is the air humidity great in where you live? I don't know the reason, but one explanation could be that when the lamp has been standing without the light on, the salt has absorbed moisture from the air. When the light has been on and warmed up the lamp, the moisture has moved towards the surface and by meeting the cooler air has condensed there. How has it acted since?

A little update on my experimentation with placing the salt soap close to my bed:
I tried this several times, but each time my sleep was light and confused and half the night I was awake. Since I like to get my sleep, I haven't tried to see what keeping it for several days there would do.
