Well, it seems like many smart people do.
A survey of members of Mensa (the High IQ Society) in Canada in the mid-1980s found that 44 per cent of them believed in astrology, 51 per cent believed in biorhythms and 56 per cent believed in aliens (Skeptical Inquirer, vol 13, p 216)

24 solar terms pillars 二十四节气柱 appeared on the south moat's bank in Beijing (located near the south gate of Temple of Heaven). The 24 pillars are divided into four groups x 6 pillars - representing the 4 seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.

Hi all,
As you may have noticed already, Ning networks have started offering a kind of "gift" feature, which allows you to send virtual gifts to other network members.
A few of them are free, but most costs 75 "credits".
Ning has given everyone 3750 free credits, probably to get people used to it.
The catch is that when you are through with your 3750 credits, you can buy more credits via Paypal and they will charge you 2$ for 100 credits.
I personally wonder who will be so stupid to pay almos…

What is good luck and what is bad luck?
Even in four pillars astrology we cannot always tell the difference.
Often we can only tell in hindsight.
A friend sent me this snippet today, it illustrates the point very well:

According to a pair of researchers from the University of Michigan, a depression does more for longevity than diet or exercise.
Life expectancy during the worst years of the Great Depression increased from 57.1 years in 1929 to 63.3 years in 1933, says the report by Jose A.…

Today is the
Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋節), celebrated widely in East Asia. It marks the full moon that is nearest to the September Equinox, always occurring on the 15th lunar day of the 8th lunar month.
According to the Chinese tradition, this is supposed to be the biggest and fullest moon of the year. However, in fact this perception comes because of the clear sky view in the Autumn in China and other East-Asian countries, when the humidity particles of the Summer have already disappeared…

Last month I spent a couple of weeks in Transylvania, in an area, which is called the ”salt country”. I participated in a qigong retreat in Sovata, which is known for its salty heliothermal lakes, and had an opportunity to visit Praid, the center of the Szekely Salt Country, where the most notable salt mine is located.
The mountains contain huge salt deposits, which have been mined at least from the Roman times. Because of the nature of the soil, agriculture does not thrive there. Salt and fore…

Sometimes people ask : "what is the use of astrology? Why do we need to know our destiny?"
Astrology is not about trying to know what is our destiny.
In fact, the chart can and does not show us our destiny.
The chart, at best, shows us a certain "potential".
And what we chose to *DO* with that potential, that's what finally becomes our destiny.
It is more than 50% in our own hands.

From the Bristol Evening Post:
"Outside Bristol Zoo is the car park, with spaces for 150 cars and 8 coaches. It has been manned 6 days a week for 23 years by the same charming and very polite car park attendant with the ticket machine. The charges are £1. per car and £5. per coach.

.... Up to now Life’s evolution has implied the disappearance of old species and the appearance of new ones. Digging through the layers of rock, palaeontologists have found that most species have long stable periods followed by a burst of change. While the majority slip away quietly and without any fanfare, the wiping out of dinosaurs, 65m years ago, was a mass extinction event; it caused the death of around 70% of all of the species; it was a “catastrophic event” that marked the boundary betwee…

Hi all,
The following is a very interesting article by Dr. Simona Mainini. I have permission from her to share with you all. Dr. Mainini is one of those few wonderful people who have managed to weld together the strict disciplines of architectural practice with the aesthetics and philosophies of the ancient Chinese traditions of Feng Shui. In 2007 Dr. Mainini was the ONLY representative from the United States invited to be one of three keynote speakers at the International Feng Shui Convention…

Some people are worried that "new age" feng shui is going to take over everything, and there will be no place for more profound methods anymore.
Is it a reasonable worry?
First of all, let's consider that the vast majority of Westerners had their first contacts with feng shui or Chinese astrology through some new age books, courses or articles.
So, for most of us these books or courses have served as a stepping stone.
Bookshops have beginner level books on nearly every topic, from physics to…

I take this opportunity to introduce to all the following blogs: -

When I started blogging in 2007 via YiFengshui, it was just a response to another blog which instigates a lot of negativity in the art of metaphysics. Surprisingly, this blog has met its natural death with its blog owner and his team of crappy personalities being carted away for some strings of litigation matters and injunctions. With such silence, aggressi…

Something becomes a generic term when it describes a whole "class" of product, services, or techniques.., rather than a "specific" one.
This is clearly the case with word "feng shui" , as it has always encompassed a whole range of different approaches, schools and techniques.
Typically a generic term cannot be trademarked or controlled by a single person.
It is even possible to lose a trademark once it becomes a generic term.
One of the indications for this is when the word starts become used a…
