Hi,

There are many wisdom sayings related to I Ching, Four Pillars, astrology and metaphysics. Everybody can add them here - ancient and new contemporary sayings...

There is one famous Chinese saying:

No matter how much one calculates things out, life always changes.
(Ren suan bu ru tian suan)
Literally: The plans of man cannot compare to the plans of heaven.
In other words: Man proposes, heaven disposes.

And here is another one:
吉凶由人 (Ji xiong you ren)
"Good or bad (luck) - it depends on the person himself".

"Life and death are decreed by fate, rank and riches are determined by heaven".

(Mou shi zai ren, cheng shi zai tian)
"Man proposes, heaven disposes".

Hi Darma,

Thank you for the nice sayings!
I just checked that 生死由命,富贵在天 (your first quote) comes from Confucius, and the 吉凶由人 that I have posted (my second quote) comes from I Ching.

Ren wei shan, fu sui wei zhi, huo yi yuan li. Ren wei e, huo sui wei zhi, fu yi yuan li.

"Virtue keeps misfortune away, even before it brings luck. Vice keeps luck away, even before it brings misfortune."

(Ji Shan zhi jia bi you yu qing, jib u shan zhi jia bi you yu yang)

This is from I Ching or yijing. It means the family that accumulates good deeds will have more things to celebrate, the family that does not accumulate good deeds will encounter more misfortunes.

A contemporary saying that can be applied to metaphysics (and methods):
"Even a blind squirrel always finds a few nuts"

Also exists in another version:
"Even a broken clock is right twice a day"

Hi,

Thanks for all the nice sayings. Here are 3 more:

"The whole Is greater than the sum of its parts".

"In the Heaven - yields images; on Earth - yields shapes".

(I Ching - Yi Jing, Xi ci)

"As above, so below".

Hi,
South... North
4 9 2 ...8 1 6
3 5 7 ...3 5 7
8 1 6 ...4 9 2
North... South
As above,.. Look at the sky

South... South
4 9 2 ...4 9 2
3 5 7 ...3 5 7
8 1 6 ...8 1 6
North... North
so below... On the earth

Qi in the heaven
counter each other

South
492
357
816
North

Qi on earth
producing cycle
South
274
359
816
North

This is from Lin ji yong's book page 281 and 283. It seems he is able to explain it in a diagram form.

"In the Heaven - yields images; on Earth - yields shapes".

(I Ching - Yi Jing, Xi ci)

On feng shui:

"Mountain is the dragon vein. Earth is the dragon flesh. Stones are the dragon bones. Grass [plants] is the dragon hair."

From the ZangShu (book of Burial):

风水之法, 得水为上, 藏风次之.

The method of fengshui, obtaining water is foremost, followed by containing the wind.

MoonChin,

Literally translating the book of burial is easy. I have seen books literally translate the traditional feng shui books. I don't think many people would actually understand. It is the application that is difficult. Do you agree?

Just like this verse, obtaining water, how? keeping or enclose the wind, how?

Anyone care to bring out the application aspect?

Anyway, thanks for bringing out this quote.

Yes it is not easy to apply without practical training and guidance.

All this are purely base on theory, if you are keen, you can explore Taiwan (as I had not been to China as yet) to withness yourself what is all this about, we can argue or disputes, but when come to practical, most of us or the so called GrandMaster might not even know what and how Moon chin meant regards to wind and water aspects.
Things are easy as far as we are determine to prove, bring the formula to prove it, if it is indeed a true knowledge, it will not contradict itself.
